PlanSystem3 v3.6
PlanSystem3 v3.6, released in October 2005, offers new features to speed up layout and copy preparation, prevent mistakes and increase protection and simplification of workflows. The new features ensure that publishers and cataloguers can further reduce production time, save money and enhance the quality control of publications.
New features
More automated task management
When a job is routed to a specific user, PlanAction™, PlanSystem3's task automation tool, now includes an additional 'check-in' trigger that enables users to start a script (automated task) to further speed up production. This new feature adds to PlanSystem3's existing script trigger facility, which automates actions when a document’s status changes and when files are moved in and out of folders.
Increased protection and customisation of metadata fields
PlanSystem3 v3.6 further tailors access to metadata fields to increase protection of the workflow and reduce mistakes. Individual metadata fields within each job file can now be hidden and locked to restrict access per user, or group of users. It is possible to define who may change or even see specific fields, ensuring that sensitive information, such as financial information, is not available to everyone. Additionally, standard fields including 'Name', 'Note' and 'Deadline' can be locked without being hidden, ensuring that they are visible to all users but only changeable by selected people.
Easier workflow management and communication
Using PlanSystem3 v3.6, it is now even easier to create new metadata fields to manage a workflow. In the PlanAdmin™ module, new pop-up (Mac) and drop-down (Windows) menus can be created, to provide core 'values' or criteria for users to choose from. When creating a new metadata field, a choice of free text (allowing users to enter their own data) or fixed values is offered. By choosing fixed values, the user can select any number of pre-determined options from the pop-up/drop-down menu. This saves significant set up time and ensures core information is communicated across the workflow.
New job notification
To help avoid costly missed deadlines, PlanSystem3 now offers a pop-up notification function to inform users of new jobs in their personal to do list, awaiting their attention. This notification remains on screen until it is dismissed, ensuring that users don't miss information about new jobs.
Easier access for multiple users
To customise workflow priorities and speed up the layout and copywriting process, PlanSystem3 allows multiple users to work on the same page, at the same time. This 'Dispatching' functionality allows the copy editor to work on the text and the creative department to work on the layout of the page simultaneously. PlanSystem3 v3.6 enables users to create these dispatch jobs over multiple spreads within one page, and to add and remove frames when necessary.
