Rutland Tool Selects Van Gennep’s PlanSystem3 for Catalog Production
SUSSEX, WI, 2007– Rutland Tool and Supply Company has
selected Van Gennep’s PlanSystem3 editorial and creative workflow
management solution for its catalog production needs. Rutland Tool, a distributor
of
metalworking tools, machine tools and related supplies, produces biweekly
and quarterly sale catalogs, as well as an annual 1,300- page catalog.
Rutland Tool had been using FileMaker Pro to track its catalog deadlines,
but decided
in 2005 to switch to Van Gennep’s PlanSystem3. QuadSystems, Van Gennep’s
exclusive distributor in North America, installed and supports PlanSystem3
at Rutland Tool.

Rutland Tool first started using PlanSystem3 in July of 2005 to produce
a wholesale catalog and a retail sale book. According to Mr. Henry: “PlanSystem3
delivers ongoing, real-time status in an easy-to-view format as the entire
catalog evolves. This allows everyone to keep working from the most current
version. With PlanSystem3, we know the exact status of every element of a
project at any given point in time.” With the success of the implementation,
Mr. Henry plans to use the system to produce this year’s annual 1,400-page
catalog.

When we used FileMaker, I’d have to re-create a project status report
every week,” Mr. Henry says. “This was very labor-intensive
and the process was fraught with the possibility of error. With PlanSystem3,
I know the status of every project at all times. This functionality will
prove invaluable when we are producing our big book.”
An important feature for catalog publishers, PlanSystem3 offers an open
architecture that is completely file agnostic. This provides the ability
to organize and
track all file formats, including any CRM software, AutoPriceTM, Adobe®,
InDesign®, PhotoShop®, Illustrator®, Microsoft® Word®,
and QuarkXPress.
