Amsterdam, October 9th, 2006 – Van Gennep – M.A.C. launches an
update of its successful planning, process and workflow management system,
PlanSystem3™ v 3.6.5 at IFRAExpo 2006. Offering users more control over
layout, deadlines and organisation, the latest version also incorporates
new features designed to speed up layout and copy preparation, prevent
mistakes and increase the protection and simplification of workflows. The
new capabilities ensure that publishers
and cataloguers can further reduce production time, save money and enhance
the accuracy and quality of finished publications.
New features include
•
Improved LDAP/Active directory integration – Enables users to access
PlanSystem3 in a server directory controlled environment
•
New folios and versioning features in the edition plan – Offers users
more control over page numbering and page versions
•
Additional features to handle relative deadlines – Offers better
control of deadlines per production phase, resulting in one final, all-encompassing
deadline with less stress
•
Improvements to PlanSystem Plug-ins for Adobe® InDesign® and InCopy® (CS2),
and the PlanSystem XTension for QuarkXPress (XPress 6 and 7)
•
Support of multiple time zones – Ensures that relative deadlines
are set according to different time zones, eliminating confusion
•
Increased query options
•
Improved preferences handling
Ton Van Gennep, CEO, Van Gennep, comments, “Having enjoyed consistent
success with PlanSystem for the last 17 years, we are delighted to further
improve accuracy and time saving control for all users. Customers can now
benefit from an even better quality product, and staff benefit from an
easier working life, allowing them to focus more on creativity.”
Improved LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol)/ Active directory – Enables
users to access PlanSystem3 in a server directory controlled environment.
The LDAP connection helps manage users and their passwords, automatically
adding approved usernames to the system through their work group, eliminating
the need for each to be entered manually. Connections between LDAP and
active directories have also been enhanced via scripting, reducing time
wastage.
New folios and versioning features in the edition plan – Offers users
more control over page numbering and page versions, also supporting layers
in the related InDesign layouts.
It is also possible, when combining PlanSystem3 with Adobe InDesign, for
the user to define which layers are included in each version, and to preview
the different versions based on layers. Instead of having to create separate
files, users are now able to store all versions of a layout in the same file,
which is then automatically attached to the master system. This improved
organisation allows simpler viewing, saving time and money.
Each time a new page version is created in the edition plan, PlanSystem3
now has an option to show the assigned layers of the InDesign layout. This
enables users for instance to differentiate between different languages.
Additional features to handle relative deadlines – Offers even more
control of the deadlines per production phase, resulting in one final, all-encompassing
deadline. Users now have the option to alter relative deadlines to accommodate
changes and developments in the production process, although the final deadline
remains fixed. This allows enhanced flexibility while maintaining workflow
organisation.
Improvements to PlanSystem Plug-ins for Adobe InDesign and InCopy, and the
PlanSystem XTension for QuarkXPress (XPress 6 and 7) – In addition
to displaying the final deadline of a job in a job list, PlanSystem Plug-ins
now display relative deadlines for the status of each job element.
When an element has been imported into a magazine’s final layout and
is subsequently modified, a pop-up warning appears. A dialogue now also shows
when a page layout, created from a dispatch job on which a user is working,
changes. These new features further eliminate mistakes and confusion in the
final production stages, ensuring that potential problems are caught early.
Support of multiple time zones – PlanSystem 3 v 3.6.5 automatically
adjusts to different world time zones, eliminating confusion and missed deadlines.
Increased query options – Existing PlanSystem modules allow users to
perform queries on the database, using ‘simple’ or ‘advanced’ query
modes. PlanSystem3 v 3.6.5 broadens this further by enabling users to query
jobs by using one statement, or by searching metadata information attached
to jobs.
Improved preferences handling – PlanSystem3 v 3.6.5 offers enhanced
preferences, both system and user. PlanSystem users can already view personal ‘to
do’ lists,
with all jobs routed to them and their editorial group. Improving production
flexibility, open-file preferences have been added to the user options, providing
the choice between read-only viewing and working on a job. Options to create
jobs without adding the respective files to the server have also been introduced.
Ton Van Gennep, CEO, Van Gennep, comments, “The latest improvements
to PlanSystem3 will enhance the streamlining of magazine production and workflow
management yet further. We strive to continuously upgrade the Van Gennep
customer experience, and enjoy providing our customers with ever-improved
solutions.”
